A Modest Proposal

Lauren Bernard

Period 2

A Modest Proposal:

1. “A Modest Proposal” is an ironic essay: the author deliberately writes what he does not mean.  What is the real thesis?  Is there more than one?  He doesn’t really mean that people should eat babies he is just making fun of the horrible living conditions and basically saying, “wow there really is no future for anyone so there is no point in bring anyone else into this world if they have to live the way things currently are.

3. Before when he is listing off the terrible things he thinks should be done to improve society.

4. The “little” people like the poor people and small children. The Irish are presented to blame, but it is ironic because they are the victims.

5. Yes when he says he wants to cure the expensiveness of pride and vanity.

6. He says he doesn’t want to actually do the things he wrote about.

7. I can’t find any other techniques. If people feel they’re being mistreated it is there job to speak up and let someone know how they feel.

8. I would try to push their cuteness. Something like baby cow is good an they aren’t even cute, could you imagine how good a baby would taste.
